Privacy Policy — Ascent

Ascent ("we," "the app") is a private coaching app connecting personal trainers with their clients ("trainees"). This policy describes what information Ascent collects, why, and how it's handled.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address (or the identifier provided by Google or Apple Sign-In), display name, profile photo (if provided), your role (trainer or trainee), and your language preference. If you sign up as a trainee, your account is linked to the trainer who invited you via a private invite code.

Coaching and workout data. Depending on your role, Ascent stores:

• Programs and workouts a trainer assigns, including exercise names, instructions, and per-set targets (reps, weight, rest).
• The sets, reps, weight, and notes a trainee actually logs while training.
• Comments trainers and trainees leave on a workout or a specific exercise.

Exercise media. Trainers may attach a photo or video to an exercise, or a YouTube link. Uploaded photos/videos are stored in our cloud storage provider (Firebase Storage) and are visible only to the trainer who uploaded them and the trainee they're assigned to.

Push notification tokens. If you allow notifications, we store a device token used solely to deliver in-app notifications (a new workout assigned, a workout marked complete, a new comment). This token is not used for any other purpose.

Usage analytics. We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used — for example, when an account is created, when an invite is sent or redeemed, and when a workout or program is created, assigned, completed, or logged. Firebase Analytics collects device and usage data as part of its standard operation, even though we don't use it for advertising.

Crash and error reports. We use Firebase Crashlytics to detect and diagnose app crashes and errors. Crash reports are tagged with your account ID so we can investigate issues affecting a specific account, but are not used for any other purpose.

How we use this information

We use the information above to operate the app's core function — letting a trainer assign and review training work, and letting a trainee log and review it — and to keep the app reliable (crash diagnosis) and to understand overall usage patterns (analytics). We do not sell your data to third parties, and we do not use your workout content, comments, or media for advertising.

Who can see your data

• A trainer can see the profile, workouts, logged sets, and comments of their own linked trainees only — never any other trainer's roster.
• A trainee can see their own data and the workouts/comments their own trainer has created for them.
• Exercise media (photos/videos) is visible only to the trainer who uploaded it and the trainee it was assigned to.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. What happens depends on your role:

• If you're a trainee, deleting your account removes your profile, your workouts and programs, everything you've logged, and any comments you've written. Your trainer will simply see you disappear from their roster.
• If you're a trainer, you must first unlink any trainees still connected to you (a "remove trainee" action, which disconnects them from your roster but leaves their own historical workouts and logs intact for them) before your account can be deleted. This is because a trainee's workout history is considered their data too, even though a trainer originally assigned it.

Account deletion is processed immediately upon request.

Children's privacy

Ascent is intended for use by adults coordinating a personal training relationship and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
